Today’s Herald has a story by Thomas Grillo about the latest suggestions to improve Boston’s City Hall Plaza.  The print version has a number of photos.  The web photos has video that I can’t get to run.

Bill Taylor of Cambridge’s Carol Johnson Associates landcape architecture firm discusses different ideas.  Taylor and Carol Johnson Associates have done interesting work all over the world.  They also redesigned the intersection and plaza in front of Toscanini’s.  To Cambridge old-timers we are not in Central Square, but actually part of  Lafayette Square.  That’s the name for the meeting of Mass. Ave. and Main Street, with Columbia Street heading north towards Broadway.  This was once the busy point for trolleyt lines coming over the Longfellow Bridge and the confusingly-named Harvard Bridge which carries Mass. Avenue across the Charles.  And while the square is Lafayette Sq, the park is named after Jill Rhone, a wonderful member of the Cambridge Police Deprtment.
