Steve Jobs in the Media Lab
Posted on August 28th, 2011, by Gus Rancatore in UncategorizedFirst of all Steve Jobs didn’t die. He simply gave up day to day responsibilities to become Apple’s chairman of the board. I have an iPhone, an Air and love the cartoons. But he never came into the store for a cone despite our location close to MIT.
But I did have one very short direct observation of Jobs, some years ago. Now he’s famous for wearing turtlenecks and blue jeans but there was a period when he dressed with a French flair. He even had a cool haircut. He was quite noticeable when I saw him waiting for an elevator in what was then the new Media Lab, the Weisner Building designed by I.M. Pei. If you had a still camera, or only had a still camera he was the well turned out image then being projected by the press. But if you rode the elevator with him he was a bundle of tics and twitches, with a little Gates-like davening thrown in.
